Whether you’re new to Scripture memory or you’ve been memorizing the Bible for decades, it’s surprising how much you can learn by reading a book about Bible memory.
Not only will you be encouraged and inspired to continue your own journey of memorizing extended books and chapters of the Bible, you might also walk away with some new techniques and ideas that you can implement in your own process.
While there are a number of great study Bibles available and even some good journaling Bibles, what we’re focusing on here are books that encourage and tips on how to memorize the Bible. I can confidently say that these 5 book on Bible memory are ones you should read.
Here’s why.
1. His Word in My Heart by Janet Pope
If you’re looking for encouragement in your Bible memory journey, you’ll find exactly what you need with Janet Pope’s book His Word in My Heart.
Janet does an amazing job providing a Biblical approach to memorizing Scripture that doesn’t “over-spriritualize” it, but underscores the importance of memory as part of building a closer walk with the Lord.
I ended up highlighting sentences on every other page of this book and I think you will too.

2. How to Memorize Scripture for Life by Andy Davis
If you’re the kind of person who enjoys memorizing entire chapters and books of the Bible…
…OR if you’re on the fence and not sure if that’s the best way to go, this book is an excellent read. Dr. Andy Davis, who has memorized over 44+ books of the Bible, goes into great detail about why you should memorize more of the Bible, particularly extended portions.
It’s a short book that you can read in less than an hour on a Saturday or Sunday!
He answers the most common objections, and shares a bit of his method. I would start with this book and then watch my interview with Dr. Davis.

3. Warriors of the Word by Aaron & Emily House
Aaron House is the Executive Director of Piercing Word Ministries, a US-based non-profit that uses drama to bring Scripture to life, using the Bible as its word-for-word script. In other words, all the actors on stage are reciting memorized Scripture. How cool!
In this book, Aaron and his wife Emily describe their unique process for approaching Scripture memory that can be applied to numerous methods. If you’re just starting out and don’t know what to do next, this book is perfect.

4. A Call to Scripture Memory by Susan Heck
Although this is more of a “booklet” than a “book” (as in, you can read it in less than an hour), it’s still worth a mention here. So many women have been positively influenced by author and speaker Susan Heck.
One of her great legacies is her passion for Scripture memory. It is said that she has memorized the entire New Testament, and in A Call to Scripture Memory, she details why this is so important to her and the tips you can use to start your own journey.

5. How to Memorize the Bible by William Evans
Yes, this book was written and published in 1919, but trust me when I say that it is still applicable. Many of the Bible memory methods explained in this book are still being used today by expert memorizers.
If you want an introduction into the world of advanced memory techniques and how they can be applied to your own Scripture memory method, this is an excellent book to start with.
